    Continuing appointments.

    The Department has the opportunity to appoint 5 new members of academic sta=
    ff to its team teaching=20
    courses in Optometry and Ophthalmic Dispensing. Currently the Department ha=
    s over 900 students=20
    enrolled.

    We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants with a strong res=
    earch background, especially=20
    publication in journals with a high impact factor & the award of competitiv=
    e grants. Whilst we=20
    normally make appointments at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, dep=
    ending on experience and=20
    qualifications, appointments can be made at a higher level if the research =
    track-record of a candidate is=20
    sufficiently strong.=20

    This new, dynamic Department is developing its research in the areas of gla=
    ucoma diagnosis &=20
    monitoring, paediatric optometry, the optics of the eye, and professional a=
    nd public health issues such=20
    as clinical governance, referral strategies and co-management.. Appointees=
     may join existing research=20
    groups or develop their own complementary research interests. The Universi=
    ty=92s aim is to establish the=20
    Department as a centre of research excellence..=20

    We encourage applications from candidates who are qualified optometrists or=
     dispensing opticians, or=20
    who have a first degree in a relevant discipline such as the biological sci=
    ences or physics, and who have=20
    a higher degree by research or other outstanding research qualifications. R=
    egistration with the General=20
    Optical Council is desirable though not essential.=20
