I like to draw your attention on my book 'Contrast sensitivity of the =
human eye and its effects on image quality' that has recently been =
published by SPIE Press.
=20
The book contains a new model for the spatial and temporal contrast =
sensitivity of the human eye, which is illustrated with a large number =
of measurement data published in literature by various authors. The =
model is largely based on the presence of noise in the visual system. =
First a fundamental treatment is given of the psychometric function and =
the basic properties of image noise. In the following chapters the =
spatial and the temporal contrast sensitivity is treated and an =
extension of the model is given to extra-foveal vision. Here a link is =
made between the variation of the ganglion cell density over the retina =
and the spatial contrast sensitivity as a function of eccentricity. =
Furthermore, a new model is given for contrast discrimination, which is =
also illustrated by several measurements published in literature. The =
last two chapters are devoted to the supra threshold behavior of the =
visual system and metrics for the description of perceived image =
quality. In the last chapter, the effects of several parameters on image =
quality is treated with the aid of the SQRI metric, using also various =
measurements published in literature. The book contains a large number =
of new ideas about the various subjects. The given models form together =
a consistent unity based on the same basic principle.
A short description of the content of the book can be found on internet =
by using www.spie.org/bookstore/newbooks.html, where also information =
can be found how it can be ordered.
