I am organizing a symposium on Visual Coding as part of the 1998 Annual
Meeting of the Optical Society of America, to be held October 4-9 in
Baltimore, Maryland. I hope you will consider submitting a paper.

Visual Coding
Symposium Description: New insights from psychophysics, neural modeling,
and image science have reinvigorated the study of representational
structures in human visual processing. Explicit notions of visual coding
are essential to understanding both the functional roles of visual neurons
as well as psychophysical performance in early and middle level vision.
Invited Lectures
"Cortical Normalization Models and the Statistics of Natural Images"
Eero P. Simoncelli
"Decomposing stereoscopic images into layers"
Barton L. Anderson
