Vision Scientists may be interested in opportunities available through the
Human Frontier Science Program described below.

The Human Frontier Science Program has recently released their program
announcement for 1998. The aim of the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP
) is to promote, through international collaboration, basic research to
elucidate the complex mechanisms of living organisms, including humans.
Applications are solicited for the support of research grants, fellowships
and workshops in the areas set out below.

Basic Research to Elucidate Brain Functions
1. Elementary Processes
2. Perception & Cognition
3. Movement & Behavior
4. Memory & Learning
5. Language & Thinking
Molecular Approaches to Biological Functions
1. Expression of Genetic Information
2. Morphogenesis
3. Molecular Recognition & Responses
4. Energy Conversion

The deadline for submission of proposals for research grants and long term
fellowships is September 1, 1998, with awards to be made the following
April. Applications for short term fellowships and workshops can be
submitted throughout the year. The HFSP makes grants in the biological
sciences according to review procedures that are analogous to those of used
in the United States.
