1999 Vision Science and Its Applications
February 19-22, 1999
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Sponsored by OSA, in cooperation with the American Academy of Optometry

Abstracts Due: September 9, 1998
Electronic Submissions Due: September 11, 1998

Need to stay current on the latest technologies for assessing vision? Find
out what the leaders in the field of vision research are learning about the
eye using new forms of adaptive optics, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, and
other means. Such techniques increase our understanding of the disease
processes within the eye and the human body as well as provide new ways to
measure visual response.

Who should attend:
Academic, clinical, and industrial researchers. Students encouraged to
apply for grants.

Topics to be considered:
* Special sessions on presbyopia and myopia
* Psychophysical and electrophysiological analysis of eye disorders
(glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy)
* Visual development and aging (amblyopia)
* Low vision research
* Advances in imaging techniques including scanning laser
ophthalmoscopy, MRI, PET scanning, and densitometry
* Specialized ophthalmic photography
* Modeling of ocular media
* Optical corrections of refractive errors
* Surgical correction and intraocular lens design
* Progressive addition lens specification, design, and quality measures
* Retinal implants/transplants

Smith-Kettlewell Lecture: Manual del Cerro, MD, Professor of Ophthalmology,
Director of Retina Transplantation Group, University of Rochester School of
Medicine

Jane Gwiazda, New England College of Optometry, Advisory Committee Chair

Kent Higgins, The Lighthouse Inc., Technical Program Committee Chair
