    EPSRC PhD Studentship
    Applied Eye Movements

    Institute of Behavioural Sciences
    University of Derby

An EPSRC quota award is available to fund a PhD studentship in "Eye
Movements in Applied Environments". The award covers fees and standard
EPSRC levels of funding for three years of full-time research at the
Institute of Behavioural Sciences (IBS), University of Derby. The Institute
has a long track-record in eye-movement research, and research areas
include eye movements in the interpretation of medical images, driving and
    natural scenes.

It is envisaged that the successful candidate will become involved in a
number of these research themes, designing experiments and developing
methods of data analysis and visualisation. He/she will join a dynamic team
of twelve based at the new dedicated IBS laboratories on the university's
    Kingsway site.

Candidates should hold or expect to obtain a good honours degree and/or
masters degree in a relevant discipline. The successful candidate will be a
highly motivated individual with a keen interest in addressing applied
research issues. Knowledge of Visual Science and/or Cognitive Psychology
will be of benefit, though candidates from other disciplines with interests
in this field should certainly consider applying. The successful candidate
will inevitably have to undertake computer programming in the course of
their research and so, if not already experienced in this area, should
possess strong computer skills and the desire and ability to learn.

The studentship covers fees and provides a stipend of UKP 6,800 per annum
    for 3 years.

Interested parties should submit a curriculum vitae, covering letter and
two supporting letters from academics. Applicants must be UK or EU citizens
in order to qualify. Closing date for applications is 19th June 2000.
    Informal enquiries are welcomed.

The University of Derby is an equal opportunities employer.
