POSTDOCTORAL POSITION: UNIVERSITY OF SURREY, UK
INFLUENCE OF CATEGORISATION ON PERCEPTION: COMBINING
COGNITIVE AND PSYCHOPHYSICAL APPROACHES
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellow to work
with Paul Sowden on a 30-month BBSRC funded project, beginning after
September 30th 2000, to explore the influence of categorisation on
perception. The post-holder will join a team of research students,
researchers and academic staff at Surrey working on this and related
topics. The project is a joint grant and will be conducted in
collaboration with Philippe Schyn's laboratory at Glasgow University.
Applicants should have completed, or be about to complete, a PhD on a
subject related to visual perception, ideally in an area that combines
this with work on cognition. An ideal applicant would also have prior
experience of running visual perception experiments; knowledge of
visual psychophysics; programming experience in C/C++, Visual Basic or
Delphi; skills in image processing using tools such as MATLAB;
experience of using Cambridge Research Systems Visual Stimulus
Generators.
Applicants who do not meet all of the above requirements but who have
strengths in particular areas, or who have the enthusiasm, willingness
and aptitude to develop the required skills will also be considered.
Salary will be in the range £16,755 - £21,435, according to age and
experience.
