POSTDOCTORAL POSITION TO STUDY A NEURODEGENERATIVE DISORDER

A joint postdoctoral position is available (starting date flexible) at The University of Rochester Medical Center in the laboratories of Drs. David Pearce and David Calkins to study the causes of progressive neurodegeneration in Batten's Disease, a member of the family of neuronal ceroid-lipofuscinoses. This disease manifests early in childhood as loss of visual function with ensuing impairment of psychomotor development and premature death. Our research program employs histological, molecular and transgenic tools to quantify selective loss of synapses and neurons across specific structures in the central nervous system including the retina, optic nerve, cerebellum and cortex. The candidate should have a strong background in cellular or developmental neuroscience and expertise in several molecular assays. Proficient knowledge of the English language is required.
