GRADUATE AND POSTDOCTORAL TRAINING IN NEUROSCIENCE
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, DAVIS
The Graduate Program in Neuroscience at the University of California,
Davis offers interdisciplinary training in areas spanning molecular to
cognitive neuroscience. Faculty from several departments (Psychology;
Neurobiology, Physiology & Behavior; School of Medicine) draw upon a
combination of psychophysical, neurophysiological, and computational
approaches to vision. The Center for Neuroscience also offers
postdoctoral fellowships via an NIH sponsored training grant.
Research facilities in the Center for Neuroscience and elsewhere on
campus provide an excellent environment for exploring vision-related
problems.
Vision-science faculty include:
Marie Burns - photoreceptors, molecular mechanisms of transduction
Ken Britten - extra-striate visual cortex, motion perception
Leo Chalupa - retinal neurophysiology, development
Barbara Chapman - visual development, cortical maps
Andy Ishida - retinal ganglion cell physiology, synaptic integration
Ted Jones - thalamo-cortical interactions
Bruno Olshausen - computational models of vision, efficient coding
Robert Post - spatial orientation and motion perception, eye movements
Marty Usrey - retina/LGN/V1 physiology, neural circuits and spike timing
Jack Werner - color vision and aging
Martin Wilson - synaptic transmission in the retina
Ewa Wojciulik - visual attention, functional imaging

Davis is located approximately 15 miles west of Sacramento, the state
capital. It is a unique community with miles of bicycle paths and
beautiful parks, and in close proximity to the Napa and Sonoma wine
country, the San Francisco bay area, Lake Tahoe and the High Sierra.
