The Vision Laboratory at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia, has one PhD scholarship available for an overseas student in any area of visual perception, psychophysics and/or cognition. The position carries with it an attractive tax-free stipend of approx. $17k Australian.
Expressions of interest are sought from overseas students with a solid four year degree (or equivalent), a strong interest in the visual sciences, and reasonable English language proficiency. Students with honours, masters or other postgraduate qualifications are particularly encouraged to apply.
The Vision Laboratory is a highly productive centre, however the workplace atmosphere is casual and very friendly. Current areas of research interest include tilt and orientation, spatial vision, the binding problem, motion detection, colour memory and object recognition, but applicants need not feel restricted in any way to these. We use state of the art facilities, including Silicon Graphics workstations, PCs, and VSG graphics cards.
Macquarie University is respected internationally as an innovative and dynamic institution. It is located at the heart of Sydney's leafy North Shore, about 8km from the city centre. Sydney itself is exciting and culturally diverse - arguably the most cosmopolitan city in the world.
Expressions of interest should be emailed to David Green via jobs@vision.psy.mq.edu.au and should include either an attatched CV or a description of educational background, experience, and research interests.
