REQUEST FOR AUTHOR AND TOPIC SUGGESTIONS: OXFORD HANDBOOK OF VISUAL
PERCEPTION
Which topics and authors should be included in the forthcoming Oxford
Handbook of Visual Perception? As editor of this volume, which will be
published by Oxford University Press in 2002, I am taking the unusual
approach of posing this question to the visual science community.
This Handbook will be modeled after the Oxford Handbook of Memory, which
presents an overview of the field in 40 succinct (6,000 - 8,000 word)
chapters written by leading researchers in the field.
I would appreciate receiving suggestions for contributors and chapter
topics. One requirement for contributors is that they be recognized
experts in their area. This definition encompasses both long-established
researchers and also younger ones who have begun making recognized
contributions to the field. Another requirement is that contributors
must be willing to submit finished chapters by early 2002.
Self-nominations and nominations of others are welcome. Please include
contact information and a few representative references.
I have some preconceptions regarding the topics to be covered in the
Handbook, but rather than bias the response, I will just state that I
envision including psychophysical and physiological research on both
"foundation" and "newly emerging" topics. Having been purposely general
and vague, I look forward to receiving suggestions that might influence
the eventual Table of Contents of this volume.
