3rd ESF Summer Symposium on Neural Computation and Neuroinformatics
to be held at ICTP, Trieste, Italy, on Saturday and Sunday 25-26 August 2001.

'Neurotechnology: Applications and Implementation'
The symposium will discuss problems of natural computation, neuromorphic
electronic devices and robotics, and silicon-neural interfaces. We will
emphasize case studies, and demos of hardware and software.
The ESF Network on Computational Neurosciences and Neuroinformatics,
which funds the symposium, was established to promote the education of young
scientists, and to facilitate the interaction and collaboration of senior
scientists, predominantly in Europe. The Network aims to bring together
scientists with different approaches to neural computation, for instance
theoreticians, cell biologists and clinicians, who need to build up a
community and to coordinate their complementary approaches to make a
conceptual contribution to brain function and dysfunction. The ESF
Network is run by a committee composed of: Moshe Abeles, Alain
Berthoz, Rodney Douglas, Stanislas Dehaene, Tobias Bonhoeffer,
Wolfgang Maass, Edmund Rolls and Vincent Torre.
The organizers of the symposium are: Giacomo Indiveri (INI, Zurich),
Rodney Douglas (INI, Zurich) and Alessandro Treves (SISSA, Trieste).
Yonger scientist, particularly from Europe, are therefore encouraged to apply to
participate in the symposium. Please e-mail <giacomo@ini.phys.ethz.ch>.
Funds are still available, to cover some lodging and possibly travel costs:
please indicate whether you apply also for full or partial financial support.
The current (still provisional) list of invited participants includes: Alan
Murray, Andreas Andreou, Eros Pasero, Florentin Worgotter, Herbert Jaeger, Jörg
Kramer, Leslie Smith, Maneesh Sahani, Miguel Nicolelis, Paul
Verschure, Shih-Chii Liu, Stefano Fusi, Thomas Natschläger, Tobi Delbrück, Tor
Sverre Lande, Vincent Torre, Walter Senn, Wolfgang Maass, Wulfram
Gerstner, Klaus Obermayer, Moshe Abeles, plus many participants in the EU
Advanced Course in Computational Neuroscience.
