We invite applications from qualified candidates for a research position at
the level of a post doctoral fellow within the Department of Ophthalmology,
University of Toronto, Canada. The project for which this position is being
considered has a focus on understanding the biomechanical environment within
the lamina cribrosa, and the role of lamina cribrosa biomechanics in
glaucoma. The project includes software development for analysis of light
microscopic images of lamina cribrosa tissue from human eyes, and subsequent
use of this software to reconstruct lamina cribrosa structure and relate it
to measured biomechanical features. We will provide an environment where
professional development of the candidate will be encouraged, including
interactions with graduate students, researchers, technicians, and
clinicians. The project is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health
Research. More information about the principal investigators can be found at
http://mie.utoronto.ca/staff/profiles/ethier.html and
http://vsrp.uhnres.utoronto.ca/Flanagan.html .
Candidates are required to have an earned Ph.D. in bioengineering, computer
science or a related field. Very strong programming skills in a Windows
environment are an absolute requirement. Previous research experience in at
least two of the following areas is also needed: biomechanics,
ophthalmology, medical image processing, Matlab.
Please submit applications by email, including names and contact information
of at least three referees. The anticipated starting date is late 2001.
