Postdoctoral Appointment
Postdoctoral position available to study Vision for Action
A postdoctoral position is open at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye
Research Institute in San Francisco to study the
neurophysiology of vision for action. Broad interests of
the research group here include how visual signals interact
with cognition to move the eyes, and how a coordinated
response is implemented by different oculomotor subsystems.
Specific projects include correlating human perceptual
responses with oculomotor behavior to understand the
transformation of sensory information to movement behavior.
Other work involves studying neural activity and eye
movements in behaving monkeys engaged in tasks that involve
predicting target motion and selecting targets embedded in
an array of distractors. The goal of the work is to
understand how the circuitry underlying these complex
behaviors interfaces with the biomechanical implementation
of the movement command. The laboratory currently focuses
on studying these functions in the eye fields of the frontal
cortex and the colliculo-pontine circuitry using single and
multiple-electrode techniques, supplemented with
mathematical modeling of population responses. Facilities
include two state-of-the art alert monkey recording rooms
equipped with CNC magnetic field search coils located in our
new physiology facility and a dual Purkinje-image eye
tracker for binocular human eye movement recording.
Smith-Kettlewell is an active group of investigators that
take a systems-level approach to understanding visual
perception and oculomotor control. The candidate would join
the Keller/Heinen laboratory group. Experience in visual or
oculomotor physiology and strong quantitative skills are
preferred. See our website at http://www.ski.org/
Interested applicants should send a CV and names of 3
