Two Research Positions Available at the University of London
Two research positions are available at the Royal Holloway campus of the
University of London. The appointees will be involved in a research project
on visual function in human albinism that was recently funded by the
Wellcome Trust.
Over the last three years our group has developed fMRI protocols that
reliably detect the anomalous visual representations in albino cortex. The
work is to be extended and combined with anatomical (MRI & DTI),
electrophysiological (VEP) and behavioural measurements on human albinism.
It is anticipated that one of the researchers will be principally concerned
with integrating the fMRI and VEP measurements, whereas the other researcher
will be more involved with fMRI and anatomical measurements. There will,
therefore, be considerable overlap between the responsibilities and both
researchers will be expected to work as a team.
The MR research will initially be conducted on a 1.5T Siemens Vision Scanner
through our collaboration with the Charing Cross Hospital, Imperial College
School of Medicine. In 2002, however, Royal Holloway will have a 3T MRI
Scanner installed and the research will switch to use this facility. We
also have excellent facilities for VEP and behavioural measurements at Royal
Holloway.
We hope to recruit two individuals with higher degrees (PhD/MSc) in a
scientific discipline. Analytical and programming skills are highly
desirable. Previous experience in MRI, fMRI and DTI would also be valuable
but not essential. Applications from those with experience of visual
psychophysics or MR physics are particularly welcomed. Candidates of any
nationality may apply.
Royal Holloway is a constituent College of the University of London and is
located approximately 20 miles West of the centre of London. Transport
links to the centre of London are quick - 35 minutes by train. The campus
provides an ideal environment for research, whilst being close enough to
London to allow regular trips to the enjoy culture of the capital city.
Charing Cross Hospital, where successful applicants will also spend some of
their time, has a more central location, but is also situated West of the
centre of London.
The project is led by Dr Antony Morland (Royal Holloway) and Dr Donald
McRobbie (Charing Cross Hospital).
Salaries will be in the range of: 22,401 to 30,625 UK pounds pa
Informal enquireries can be made by email to Dr Tony Morland
