Lectureship in Cognition and Neuroimaging (fMRI)

As part of Brunel University's major research initiative in which 60 new
research-active appointments will be made, the Department of Human
Sciences has been allocated two full-time research lectureships. As a
first step in this process, the Department is seeking to appoint one
lecturer to join a new research centre in Cognition and Neuroimaging,
encompassing visual psychophysics, EEG/ERP/VEP mapping, neurolinguistic
and cognitive reearch. This centre, together with three groups in
neighbouring Universities (Royal Holloway, Surrey and Reading) is
planning to operate its own 3T fMRI research scanner from September
2002.
Applicants should have a strong research record, a PhD in a relevant
area of research (or be near to completion), and the ability to attract
external funding and publish in relevant journals and work effectively
within a team. Applications from Psychology or any other relevant
scientific discipline are welcome. Programming, analytical and
mathematical skills are essential. Experience in fMRI and/or
willingness to undertake training and conduct research using fMRI is
expected. The appointments are research led and 70% of the post
holder's time will be earmarked for research, although a contribution to
the Department's teaching is also expected. The appointment will
be of a fixed-term duration until 31 July 2007, and will be subject to
review at the end of this period.

The salary will be within the lower range of the Lecturer A scale
(currently up to £20,267 per annum), plus £1583 per annum London
Allowance, although more experienced candidates are encouraged to
apply. In addition, the University operates a research incentive
scheme through which academic staff can earn up to a maximum of £25,000
per annum through attracting grant income into the University.
