This to announce the proposed formation of a Society to represent vision
researchers in Australia and New Zealand. The principal aims of the new
Society are: (1) to facilitate communication and collaboration between
researchers interested in ophthalmic and vision science; and (2) to
represent the interests of such researchers to Government and other
agencies.
The proposed organization and structure of the Society will be discussed at
the 8th Australasian Ophthalmic and Visual Science Meeting (AOVSM), 7-9
December 2001 at the University of Sydney. A meeting to discuss and debate
this proposal and its details is scheduled for Saturday 8 December.
The draft constitution of the proposed "Australian Society for Eye
Research" can be viewed on the Ophthalmic Research Institute of Australia

It is important that the Society be broadly based across all disciplines
and sub-specialties of vision research. If you are interested in joining
the Society, but are not attending the AOVSM, kindly inform me by e-mail.
