    1. Junior Professor
    Clinical Neuropsychology

    The Institut für Kognitionsforschung, Carl von Ossietzky University of
    Oldenburg, Faculty 5 (Philosophy, Psychology, Sports Science), invites
    applications for a junior professor position (assistant level) for
    clinical neuropsychology .

    Positions are to be filled in 2002, final decisions on budgetary and
    employment regulations provided.

    Candidates will initially be employed according to the federal tariff
    system (BAT); the salary will correspond to "BAT Ib". The position will
    be limited to three years. After positive evaluation it is possible to
    extend the contract up to six years. Status as civil servants can be
    provided if personal qualifications and legislative conditions comply
    with requirements.

    Qualifications for application include a graduate university degree as
    well as excellent scientific competences usually documented by an
    outstanding doctoral degree. The doctorate should be achieved no longer
    than five years ago.

    Teaching and research expertise is expected in the areas of clinical
    neuropsychology and its applications, behavioral physiology, and
    neuropsychiatry / psychopathology.

    Research should focus on topics in neurocognition. Neuronal bases of
    behavioral and control are also desirable research topics. Research
    should also be related to modern neuroimaging techniques (functional
    magnet resonance tomography) in cooperation with local medical
    institutions.

    We expect the successful applicant to participate in the Deutsche
    Forschungsgesellschaft - Sonderforschungsbereich "Neuronale Grundlagen
    kognitiver Prozesse (Neurokognition)" as well as in the European
    Graduate School "Neurosensory sciences".

    Junior Professor for Neurogenetics

    The position will be filled in 2002, final decisions on budgetary and

    system (BAT); the salary will correspond to "BAT Ib". The position will
    be limited to three years. After positive evaluation it is possible to
    extend the contract up to six years. After this time a tenured position
    for a Professor (C3) of Hydrology will be opened. Status as civil
    servants can be provided if personal qualifications and legislative
    conditions comply with requirements.

    Qualifications for application include a graduate university degree as
    well as excellent scientific competences usually documented by an
    outstanding doctoral degree. The doctorate should be achieved no longer
    than five years ago.

    The candidate for the position should have accomplished internationally
    accepted scientific research during a postdoctoral period. It is
    desirable that the candidate has gained experience in international
    research institutions and in fund raising.

    Within the Department a centre of Neurobiology and Genetics has been
    formed. With respect to neurosciences, the University of Oldenburg
    offers an excellent environment: there is a Centre of Excellence
    "Neurocognition" (jointly with the University of Bremen), a Science
    Centre of Neurosensory, and an associated European Graduate College.
    Several cooperations exist with the Universities of Bremen and Groningen
    (The Netherlands) and the "Hanse Institute for Advanced Study". The
    candidate is expected to engage with his/her research activities
    (related to e.g. developmental processes, regulation of behavior or
    neurosensory processes) in these cooperations.

    Teaching will encompass Neurogenetics in an extent typically requested
    from a Junior Professor.

    in Neurosensory Science and Systems
    (Junior-Professur Neurosensorik)

    in at least one of the following areas

    Hearing research
    Medical physics, medical imaging
    Speech communication

    Theory of biological information processing

    be limited to three years. After positive evaluation it is possible to

    well as excellent scientific competences usually documented by an

    The position will be affiliated with the area "acoustics and
    communication" of the Institute for System Technology. This recently
    established institute is intended to promote interdisciplinary
    cooperation between physics, computer science and other related
    disciplines in the areas microsystems and robots, biomedical technology
    and information processing.

    A participation in the special research center (Sonderforschungsbereich)
    517 Neurokognition, the national center of excellence for hearing
    technology (HörTech) and the European Graduate School Neurosensory
    Science and Systems is highly desirable.

    Candidates should fulfill the requirements of a "Juniorprofessor"
    according to the guidelines of the BMBF
    (http://www.bmbf.de/presse01/415.html) and the MWK. They should have a
    qualified graduate degree in physics (or equivalent) and a doctorate in
    an appropriate area as well as extensive knowledge, practical experience
    and prominent publications in at least one of the areas listed above. As
    a faculty member the successful candidate will be required to contribute
    to the lecture program of the Physics Department (lectures are primarily
    in German, but lecturing in English only is acceptable during the first
    two years).
