Future Integrated Transport – Research Project
‘Inclusive Transport Environments: Colour design, lighting and visual
impairment’
Multimodal transport environments of the future present major problems
for users especially in relation to the ageing population and people who
are visually impaired. The contribution of design and lighting to the
functioning of these transport environments is extensive. Two Research
Fellows are required for this exciting 2 year project which adopts a broad
multi-disciplinary approach. A wide range of industrial collaborators are
also involved. Post (a) will be based at the Colour Design Research
Centre at South Bank University in London and Post (b) will be based at
The Research Group for Inclusive Environments at the University of
Reading. The project is due to commence in the first half of 2001. Both
research posts will work closely together on the project and, on
occasions, will be required to work in either Research Centre.
Research Fellow (Post a) – The successful candidate may come from a
variety of disciplines including architecture, interior design and product
design. There is also a need for experience in CAD. An interest in the
social issues of the practical application of colour, design and lighting in
the built environment is essential.
Research Fellow (Post b) – The successful candidate may come from a
variety of disciplines associated with the built environment. An interest
or experience in lighting is essential. The candidate would also be
required to carry out the experimental design and statistical analysis of
data developed by the project.
Candidates for these post should be Postdoctoral and preferably have
experience in the area. The project is of interest to those who are keen to
be involved with addressing the transport environmental design of the
future through a broad interdisciplinary project. Candidates will be
required to interact with older people and people with disabilities
especially visual impairments. This exciting project offers a unique
challenge for suitable candidates. Please call for an informal discussion,
write or email and/or send a CV to:
