The Department of Sociobiology/Anthropology at the
Johann-Friedrich-Blumenbach Institute of Zoology & Anthropology of the
Georg-August-University of Goettingen (Germany) announces a
 
PhD Position
- Salery TV-L 13 (50%) -
 
within an Emmy Noether Research Group, funded by the German Research
Foundation (DFG) beginning on 01.02.2008 for 2 years with an optional 3rd
year.
 
This new research group explores the evolutionary psychology of human
behaviour. In particular, the successful candidate will form part of a
research team that will be investigating the importance of human skin
condition and appearance in various aspects of mate-choice. This research
will include a visit to a collaborating institution for the purpose of data
collection and analysis.
 
Duties and responsibilities include: digital recording and manipulation of
facial images, creation of virtual human characters (avatars) with the aid
of 3D software, digital image analysis, as well as conducting several rating
studies. Candidates who wish to apply should ideally be familiar with
respective software (e.g. 3D Studio Max, Lightwave, Cinema 4D) and be fully
competent with statistical analyses (incl. the use of software such as SPSS,
Systat, JMP). Knowledge of evolutionary psychology theory and literature is
assumed. Due to the internationality of the research group written and
spoken command of the English language is mandatory.
 
The University of Goettingen aims to increase the percentage of women in
