Post-doctoral position
School of Psychological Sciences, University of Manchester, UK
Applications are invited for a 36 month post-doctoral position funded by The Wellcome Trust. The aim of the project is to develop a computational model of the neural processes involved in the visual assessment of scene-relative object movement during movement of the (human) observer. Construction of the model will require the collection of behavioural experimental data (from human participants) to constrain the space of possible architectures. It is anticipated that the work will entail around 50% modelling and 50% data collection. The latter will involve standard visual psychophysics techniques as well as the use of motion tracking technologies.
The position will be based at the University of Manchester working with Dr. Paul Warren and will also involve collaboration with Dr. Simon Rushton at Cardiff University. The start date for the position is 1st March 2010.
The successful candidate will have a PhD (or be near to completion of a PhD) or post-doctoral experience in a topic involving a significant mathematical/computational modelling component. Alternatively, candidates with an undergraduate degree in a numerical discipline (e.g. Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science) and some relevant PhD or postdoctoral experience will also be considered. Applicants with appropriate expertise in the empirical study of human vision will also be considered provided that they have strong mathematical skills. Above all candidates should be enthusiastic, willing to learn new techniques and interested in studying the human visual system.
Informal enquiries can be addressed to Dr Paul Warren (paul.warren at manchester.ac.uk).
