BANGOR UNIVERSITY, BANGOR, UK

SCHOOL OF PSYCHOLOGY

Post-doctoral Research Officer (Ref 09-9/87)
Grade 7 point 30 - 34 £29,704 - £33,432 p.a.

Computer Vision, Mathematical Modeling, Image Processing.

Applications are invited for a full time fixed term (36 months)
Research Officer working on an ESRC/EPSRC co-funded project entitled
?An investigation of fixational eye movement patterns during
three-dimensional object recognition? awarded to Dr. Charles Leek
(P.I., School of Psychology) and Dr. Stephen Johnston (School of
Psychology) and Dr. Ik Soo Lim (School of Computer Science).

This innovative project involves using eye tracking and other
perceptual/behavioural methods to elucidate shape processing
mechanisms in human vision during object perception and recognition.
This will be achieved by combining data from studies of recognition in
human vision with rigorous mathematical and statistical modeling.

This post should particularly suit candidates with a PhD or equivalent
in mathematics, computer science, machine vision or image processing,
who are interested in working in an interdisciplinary environment,
with a view to opening career opportunities in the expanding field of
cognitive neuroscience. The successful applicant will have solid
mathematical and programming skills (e.g., Matlab, C++) and will,
amongst other responsibilities, be developing software for the
quantitative analysis of eye tracking data and the implementation of
3D shape analysis algorithms from both machine vision and psychology.
No prior experience with eye movement measures or psychological
research is required. Some familiarity with current approaches to
object recognition in machine vision would be an advantage.

The post will start on 1st March 2010 or as soon as possible
thereafter, and continue for three years. Interviews will be held on
8th February 2010.

Informal enquiries can be made to:
