Ph.D. studentship in unconscious perception
Applications are invited for a Ph. D. studentship at the laboratory of
Prof. Thomas Schmidt at Kaiserslautern University.
The position is embedded in a research project by the German Research
Foundation, "Response priming as an access to preconscious visual
representations". This project is concerned with rapid motor activation
by subliminal stimuli. We are especially interested in dissociations
between the motor impact of the stimuli and their appearance in visual
awareness, e.g., in the processing of brightness, color, or
figure-ground organization. For representative publications, see our
website: www.sowi.uni-kl.de/wcms/psy.html.
The lab offers excellent facilities for studying visual perception and
motor control. The group offers a stimulating research environment,
especially for young scientists. The city of Kaiserslautern is a small
university town, located between Saarbrücken and Mannheim and famous for
its soccer team.
The postholder will be responsible for setting-up laboratory
experiments, recruiting and testing participants, analyzing data, and
publishing the results.
Applications are invited from candidates with a higher degree (diploma
or MS) in subjects related to aspects of psychology and neuroscience,
including computer science, biological sciences, and engineering.
Applicants should have knowledge and skills in experimental psychology,
cognitive neuroscience, or quantitative methods. Applicants are expected
to have a strong interest in human visual perception.
The positions are available as soon as possible. Salary is according to
German salary scale 0.5 TVL-13.
For an informal discussion of the post contact Prof. Thomas Schmidt by
