[visionlist] Advanced Image Coding

Dear members

The JPEG committee (WG1) has initiated an activity to study potential  
methodologies for image quality evaluation and technologies for future  
generation image compression systems. This activity which is referred  
to as Advanced Image Coding and Evaluation Methodologies (AIC), is a  
new work item for standardization of a new evaluation approaches and  
image compression system if any potential technologies can be  
identified which significantly would improve the performance current  
image compression standards. By image one means not only still  
pictures, but also any visual content such as image sequences,  
stereoscopic, multiview, volumetric, animated volumetric, etc.

Let me attract your attention on the activity of the JPEG committee  
regarding the advanced Image Coding. Several call have been issued at  
the last JPEG meeting in Boston and may be of interest for you or your  
teams. Please take the time to look at the calls and feel free to  
provide any feedback or any proposal that may fit with topics of the  
calls.

- Medical image databases
- Technologies and features for medical image coding
- Technologies and features for camera sensors images coding
- Technologies and features for security applications
