Recently the Journal of Vision switched to a new design and a new host. In this change, we have preserved many of the signature features of the journal, including a simple uncluttered graphic design, icons, a straightforward interface, and prominence given to the articles themselves. As you explore the site, we hope you will enjoy the new features. We also hope you will forgive us our rough edges, as we discover and correct any problems created during the transition. We welcome your comments. Please report any problems you discover to both myself and to our Managing Editor, Alice O'Donnell (aodonnell at arvo.org).

We made this change to ensure the stability of the journal into the future. Since its founding in 2000, and first publication in 2001, the journal has been hosted by custom software designed and written in-house. This arrangement allowed rapid development and frequent innovation. The final product was something of which we were, reasonably or not, quite proud. But this arrangement also made the journal dependent on a few individuals. Faced with the challenge of maintaining this software over the long term, we chose instead to move the journal to a commercial provider, HighWire Press, based at Stanford University, that currently hosts 1328 publications, including many other journals with which you are no doubt familiar. With this change, authors and readers can be confident of a stable, secure, and sophisticated platform, now and into the future.

This change will help ensure that we live up to our original motto:

Be free, Be Everywhere, Be forever.
