BANGOR UNIVERSITY
COLLEGE OF HEALTH & BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCES
SCHOOL OF PSYCHOLOGY

MRI Research Support Officer
Grade: 6 £23,566 - £28,983 p.a.

We invite applications for an MRI Research Support Officer in the
Bangor Imaging Unit of the School of Psychology at Bangor University.
The position carries a contract for 2 years, with the option of
further extension.

The post-holder will be involved in providing general support for the
research conducted in the Bangor Imaging Unit, providing advice,
guidance and knowledge for the benefit of all users. The post-holder
will be responsible for the development, implementation, and
maintenance of an efficient workflow for magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) studies, primarily of the brain. This workflow will include
stimulus presentation, behavioural response measurement, data storage
and retrieval, and basic default pathways for image processing and
preliminary analysis. A key responsibility will be to communicate
effectively with the MR user community in order to identify needs and
to provide guidance on proper use of hardware and software. The post
will entail opportunities for further professional development through
the School's ongoing training programmes (for example weekly imaging
group meetings). There is also some scope for personal research.

The School of Psychology has an outstanding record of teaching (ranked
"Excellent" for Teaching Quality) and research (7th of 76 UK Schools
in the 2008 "Research Power" table, a combined metric of research
quality and quantity). Our research environment benefits from numerous
journal clubs and technical groups, including a weekly MRI user group
meeting; MRI-guided TMS; several EEG labs; close links with the local
NHS Trust that support specialist neurological and psychiatric patient
panels; an ESRC-funded Bilingualism Centre; and links with researchers
in Cardiff and Swansea.

Our neuroimaging capacity is centred on a research-dedicated 3T
Philips MRI scanner, housed within the School of Psychology. See
