*PhD-student in Cognitive Psychology *

 The Department of Cognitive Psychology of the Faculty of Psychology and
Education of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (supervised by prof. dr. Jan
Theeuwes) is considering applications for a PhD-student position.

Our main research focus is on the control of visual attention and eye
movements.The question of the present research project is how complex
biological stimuli such as facial expressions, gestures, body postures
affect the guidance of visual attention and eye movements in the environment.
Knowledge of and experience with brain imaging, eye tracking, programming,
and data analysis are recommended.

*Job and education requirements*

The candidate has (or will have in the near future) a Master’s degree in
cognitive psychology, physics, informatics, biology, or some comparable
area. The candidate has a strong interest in experimental research in the
area of visual perception and emotion; expertise in methods of research
(including brain imaging); experience with empirical research and computer
programming; excellent ability to write and read English.


Appointment

Appointment will initially be for 12 months. After a successful evaluation
the appointment will be prolonged for another 36 months. The employment will
have to result in a written dissertation by the end of the fourth year.

*Salary*

The salary is based on the salary scales for academic staff. The salary in
the first year amounts to € 2.042,- gross per month, increasing to € 2.612,-
gross per month in the fourth year, based on full-time employment.
