JOB TITLE: MRI Technologist
TYPE OF POSITION: Contract - 1 year with a possibility of renewal
STARTING DATE: October 1, 2010
HOURS: 35 hours per week – flexible work times
SALARY: $58,000 - $65,000 per annum plus benefits

JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Neuroimaging Coordinator, the MRI technologist will serve as the primary support person for the Neuroimaging Laboratory, managing day-to-day operations of the Centre and assisting in the practical aspects of scanning.
The Neuroimaging Laboratory at York University with a research-dedicated Siemens Trio MRI scanner is part of York’s world-class Centre for Vision Research. Located at the Sherman Health Science Research Centre, the MRI Technologist is a key component of this new unit.

FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:
A. Scanner and related equipment operations
1. Operates the MRI scanner and assists with subject preparation as required.
2. Acts as the primary safety officer for the scanner and ensures that users are appropriately trained, providing initial or additional training as necessary.
3. Understands and maintains stimulus and response equipment and trains users on its use, as required.
4. Acts as the first contract for researcher questions and technical support.
5. Conducts regular quality assurance scans, analyzing the data and preparing appropriate reports.
6. Assists with file transfers and data archiving.
7. Acts as the primary liaison for maintenance and service to Siemens for the Trio scanner and to other manufacturers/distributors for other neuroimaging equipment, as appropriate.
B. Neuroimaging Centre Operational Management
1. Maintains the scheduling system and usage log for all equipment.
2. Prepares invoice request forms, ensuring the accuracy of all charges to be billed.
3. Maintains appropriate levels of inventory for all consumable.
4. Updates and provides content for the Neurimaging Laboratory website.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
University undergraduate degree in a relevant scientific discipline required, Master's degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Recent related experience with MRI scanning desirable.
SKILLS:
Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to deal courteously and effectively with a wide range of people; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability in exercising good judgment and initiative; ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive health-related information appropriately; excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize and work with deadlines; good organizational skills; strong computer skills, knowledge of basic financial management, knowledge of website content management. Basic understanding of research ethics as it pertains to human subjects, an asset.
