Following recent NIH funding, post-doc and RA openings exist within the lab
of Dr Sonia Bishop at UC Berkeley. The lab is based within the Department of
Psychology. Professor Bishop has a secondary appointment at the Helen Wills
Neuroscience Institute. Psychology, HWNI and the Brain Imaging Centre are in
neighboring buildings and there is a strong collaborative ethos both between
these institutes and with other departments on campus. Candidates are sought
with a strong background in cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience,
vision science or cognitive/computer modeling. Programming skills are
strongly desirable (in python, matlab or C). Areas of research within the
lab include the brain basis of perceptual and attentional function, in
particular mechanisms underlying the prioritized processing of emotionally
salient stimuli, face processing, fear conditioning, individual differences
in cortical and subcortical function. Much of the lab’s work involves
functional magnetic resonance imaging. Either prior experience in this or a
computational/ modeling background would be an advantage. There is
opportunity to conduct research involving intracranial recording (in humans)
in collaboration with Professor Bob Knight’s lab and work with a modeling
emphasis through collaborations with Professor Jack Gallant. Start-date is
flexible. Contract length is also negotiable. Please contact Sonia Bishop at
sbishop at berkeley.edu, for further details (see also
