Postdoctoral Position in Molecular Neuroscience --Vision Research
YorkUniversityis undergoing a major expansion in the area of Life
Sciences. To strengthen research in the field of Molecular Neuroscience
a postdoctoral fellowship is offered in the group of Dr. Georg Zoidl.
This group will investigate the role of electrical synapses from genes
to behavior, with a particular focus on the vertebrate visual system.
The successful candidate is expected to play a key role in developing
animal models using zinc-finger nuclease (ZFN) technology (Foley et al.,
PLosOne 2009; Miller et al., Nat. Biotechnology, 2007) for genetic
knock-out of retinal electrical synapse proteins in the zebrafish.
He/she should have a strong background in recombinant DNA technology and
expression analysis techniques. A background in zebrafish genetics and
expertise in microinjection is a plus but not an excluding factor. The
ability to build vivid interactions with the Center for Vision Research
(CVR) and the multidisciplinary research community at York University is
expected.
This postdoctoral fellowship is funded jointly by the Ontario Ministry
of Research & Innovation and York University. The salary per annum will
be $50,000 plus benefits, and duration will be two years. The successful
applicant is expected to complete his/her Ph.D. no later than six months
after beginning the fellowship.Applicant must spend 1% of her/his time
mentoring undergraduates at York.
