Dear colleagues,
we are proud to announce that the Department of Psychology at Giessen
University awarded the Kurt-Koffka medal to Prof. Roberta Klatzky (Carnegie
Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA).
The Kurt-Koffka award is meant to honor scientists who advanced the
fields of perception or developmental psychology to an extraordinary
extent. The award reminds of Kurt Koffka, who is well-known as a pioneer of
Gestalt Psychology, in particular in the fields of perception and child
development. Koffka worked in Giessen for 16 years, from 1911 to 1927.
This was the fourth time that the Kurt-Koffka medal was awarded. In a
ceremony that took place on November 24, 2010, Prof. Klatzky was honored
for her work on perception.
The previous winners of the medal were Marty Banks (Berkeley, USA) in 2007
Claes von Hofsten (Uppsala) in 2008, and Janette Atkinson (London) and Oliver
Braddick (Oxford) in 2009.
On behalf of the nominating committee for the Koffka medal,
Karl Gegenfurtner
