The Department wishes to appoint a Professor of Developmental
Neuroscience to contribute to its newly established Centre for Human
Development and Learning. This centre aims to advance a theoretical
and applied understanding of typical and atypical development and
learning using experimental, computational and neuroscientific
approaches.

You should be a prominent, internationally recognised researcher with
a proven track record of publications, funding and supervision, and
demonstrated leadership in research and teaching. We particularly
welcome candidates who are interested in directing the new centre for
an initial term of four years (open to renewal).

The Department is well resourced with TMS facilities, eye-trackers,
3D movement registration equipment, acoustic laboratories and a 128-
channel EEG facility suitable for infant recording. The Department
has strong links with local NHS hospitals and other departments in
the University (e.g., Clinical Psychology; Applied Statistics). We
also have collaborative links with other universities (e.g., for fMRI
facilities).

The quality of our international research, evidenced by a successful
outcome to the 2008 RAE, is mirrored by the quality of our teaching.
The 2008 RAE panel noted that developmental psychology and cognitive
psychology were particular Departmental strengths in terms of
research outputs. The Department has ESRC-recognised PhD and Masters
programmes and a buoyant undergraduate community. We offer a
supportive and collegiate environment, with moderate and carefully
managed teaching and administration loads.

This post is available from 1st November 2010.

Informal enquiries can be made to the Head of Department, Dr Linden
Ball (01524 593470, l.ball at lancaster.ac.uk, or to the Department’s
Research Coordinator, Prof Padraic Monaghan (01524 593813,
p.monaghan at lancaster.ac.uk).
