> AVA/BMVA Meeting on Biological and Computer Vision

School of Psychology, Cardiff University, 26th May 2011.

Abstract submission opens: 1st April 2011
Abstract submission deadline: 15 April 2011

Invited Keynote Speakers:
John Tsotsos, Centre for Vision Research, York University, Toronto.
Michele Rucci, Active Perception Laboratory, Boston University.

The study of biological and machine vision share much common history (eg
Marr), and each discipline has benefited enormously from findings and
techniques from the other. In the UK (in contrast to elsewhere) the
discussion and collaboration between the sister disciplines seems to have
declined. The aim of this meeting, organised jointly by the AVA (UK
biological vision) and BMVA (UK computer vision) is to reignite
conversations between these two fields.

As this is the first joint venture between the AVA and the BMVA, we
particularly encourage submissions that will be of potential
cross-disciplinary interest to both human and computer vision. However,
regular human vision AVA submissions, as well as computer vision techniques
likely to be of interest to a general audience, are still very welcome.

We are adopting a novel format: because we wish the meeting to be about
conversations, all presenters will have a poster and the day will be
structured to ensure that people circulate and talk. Posters will be
interspersed by talks by two international keynote speakers who cross the
two disciplines.

250 word short abstracts should be submitted via the conference website by
15 April. Abstracts will be reviewed and published in the journal
Perception and therefore they should be original. However, given the theme
of the meeting we strongly encourage abstracts that are comprehensible by
the non-expert reader.

The registration fees are as follows:

AVA Members £40
AVA Student £20

BMVA Members £25
BMVA Student £5

AVA lifetime membership £20
BMVA annual membership £20

AVA or BMVA non-members £60

Registration 1st April - 12th May 2011
Late registration (after 12th May) + £5

Note that AVA and BMVA have different funding models, hence the different
prices.

The fee includes tea & coffee, a buffet lunch and wine reception (kindly
provided by the School of Psychology). Members of the AVA, BMVA and
non-members have different fees which reflect the different
membership/meeting funding models of the two organisations. For more
details, including contact and query information, please visit the meeting
website.
