POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN PSYCHOPHYSICS AND COMPUTATIONAL MODELING OF VISION

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of James Elder at the York University Centre for Vision Research in Toronto, Canada. We seek an individual to participate in an ongoing interdisciplinary programme of research in the psychophysical study and computational modeling of human vision. The candidate should have a background in psychophysics and computational modeling of human vision, and strong programming skills.
Areas of interest for the laboratory include:
Natural scene statistics
Classification image and reverse correlation techniques
Neural modeling
Contour processing
Perceptual organization
Perception of shadows
Shape coding
Visual attention
Face perception
The salary for this position is competitive and the starting date is flexible. The position is for one year, with the possibility of renewal. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. International applications are encouraged.
The Centre for Vision Research (CVR) at York University is an international leader in human and machine vision research. Uniting researchers from psychology, computer science & engineering, biology and kinesiology & health science, work at the centre is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, rooted in a fundamental research programme that merges techniques in human psychophysics, visual neuroscience and computational theory. Our vision health research tackles the problems of strokes, migraines, brain disorders, autism and visual deficits in Canada's aging population. Vision technology application areas include medical and assistive devices, visual security, search-and-rescue, 3D film, and augmented reality systems used in collaboration with NASA and the aerospace industry.
