LEPSiS - one of the labs of the French National Institute of Research
For Transport and Safety - is seeking a motivated student for a PhD
thesis to work on a research program aimed to study the impact of the
immersive and interactive characteristics of simulators on human
behavior. The overall goal is to validate driving/road-crossing/riding
simulators that guaranty naturalness of the interface (and of
driver/pedestrian/rider behavior).
The PhD project will focus on the effects of several techniques of
visual rendering on the attentional positioning of the user within the
virtual environment and on perceptual processes (impending collision
detection) by using eye tracking and behavioural measures.
Visual rendering techniques under consideration are:
- projected real images versus synthetic images,
- monoscopic versus stereoscopic displays,
- high dynamic versus low dynamic range screens,
- size of the visual field of view.
The following set of qualifications will be used for assessing applications:
- Master degree in experimental psychology, neuroscience or sport
sciences (mandatory),
- background in eye tracking measures and/or experimental sciences
(mandatory),
- experience in data and statistical analysis (desired),
- a very good command of English (mandatory).
The position will begin ideally in September or October 2011. The salary
is consistent with French standard for a PhD (net salary: 1600 euros).
If interested, please contact Dr. Régis Lobjois -- LEPSiS

statement of research interests.
