Announcing a postdoctoral position in Dr. Stephen Mitroff’s Visual Cognition Lab at Duke University in anticipation of funding. The research involves psychophysical studies that investigate individual differences in, and the malleability of, visual perception and attention. Studies focus on what makes one individual a better visual searcher than another, how visual search abilities can be enhanced and trained, and how visual cognition can be altered through prior experiences and training regimens. The research program has an applied component that involves working directly with local airport personnel to inform both academic theory and national security. Knowledge of vision and attention research and programming ability are required (MATLAB/Psychtoolbox experience preferred). The position is limited to US citizens and permanent residents who can pass minimal security clearance checks. The position is for one year with the possibility for a longer term, contingent upon continued funding. The start date is flexible but could be as early as May 2011. Interested applicants should e-mail Stephen Mitroff at mitroff at duke.edu and include a CV and the names and contact information for 2 references. Information about the general research program can be found at the lab website: http://www.mitrofflab.org
