Postdoctoral positions are immediately available to study the neural mechanisms of face and body perception in the brain of awake marmosets and macaques. Our research program involves a multi-modal approach that combines electrophysiology, optical imaging, and functional magnetic resonance imaging to measure and localize neural and vascular responses to sensory stimuli, including high-level, socially relevant visual stimuli. Our laboratories routinely collect fMRI data from both primate species using a state-of-the-art 7T/310 mm horizontal scanner for marmosets and 4.7T/600 mm vertical scanner for macaques. In addition, the laboratories are equipped with both electrophysiology and optical imaging instrumentation. A major goal of the project is to delineate the face and body processing circuits in the marmoset and to compare them to those found in the macaques and human. Beyond mapping, the combined application of electrophysiological and imaging methods will be used to investigate how selective neural responses give rise to the measured fMRI responses. This is a collaborative project between the labs of Dr. Afonso Silva in NINDS (www.lfmi.ninds.nih.gov/cmu-main.html) and David Leopold in NIMH (lnpsych.nimh.nih.gov/leopold). The successful candidate will work in a vibrant environment and interact with a rich community of neuroscientists and neurophysiologists at the NIH.
All candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Neurosciences, Physiology, or a related discipline. Good written and oral communication skills, self-motivation, ability to work independently or in a team-oriented setting in a multidisciplinary environment are required. Candidates with experience in imaging or electrophysiology are particularly encouraged to apply.
Applicants should submit a letter of interest outlining experience and research goals, as well as a CV and the names of three references to:
