Three Postdocs in Brain Decoding Project
Brain and Behavior Discovery Institute
Georgia Health Sciences University, Augusta, GA, USA
The Brain and Behavior Discovery Institute at the Georgia Health
Sciences (GHSU) is seeking three postdocs to join Professors Joe Z.
Tsien and Zhiyong Yang’s laboratories in the Brain Decoding Project. The
goal of the Brain Decoding Project is to uncover the computational
principles and neural mechanisms underlying vision, audition, learning
and memory, and spatial navigation. Towards this goal, we plan to launch
a public Brain Code Library in the future. We will deposit the
activities of large populations of neurons recorded by us into a public
library and invite researchers around the globe to download them to
decode the populational codes in the brain.
Candidates for TWO positions in Professor Tsien's lab should have
extensive experience in several of the following areas: (1) large-scale
array recording in behaving animals, (2) neural encoding/decoding
analysis, (3) classification of patterns of neural activities, (4)
identification and reconstruction of neural dynamics, (5) statistical
modeling of visual and auditory scenes, (6) programming in C++ and
Matlab. Candidates with experience in recording in behaving animals are
preferred, but candidates who have strong computational background and
are willing to do large-scale array recording are also very welcome to
apply.
Candidates for ONE position in Professor Yang's lab should have strong
background in several of the following areas: (1) computer vision, (2)
statistical learning theory, (3) probabilistic graphical models, and (4)
vision sciences. He/she will also have strong programming skills and be
available to do statistical modeling of large datasets of natural
objects, events, and scenes. Research focus will be on computational
principles of natural vision and theoretical frameworks of visual system
structure and function.
The Brain and Behavior Discovery Institute is an exciting new center
for systems neuroscience, with plans for rapid expansion in the
immediate future. GHSU has strong research programs in other
neuro-scientific disciplines, including molecular, cellular, and
developmental neuroscience, and a variety of related clinical
disciplines. Opportunities for research collaborations also exist at the
adjacent VA Hospital.
Application includes a CV, a statement of current and future research
interests, 3 letters of recommendation. Please send applications to
Professor Tsien for the TWO positions or Professor Yang for the ONE
position.
