The University of Iceland welcomes applications from outstanding
graduate students to pursue a PhD in Vision Science. The position will
support the collaborative interdisciplinary work between the
Department of Psychology and Department of Electrical and Computer
Engineering to study the visual perception of satellite images. With
the project, we aim for collaboration between two fields – the field
of vision and visual cognition, and the field of satellite image
analysis since each discipline can inform the other, increasing our
understanding of visual processing and providing more efficient
methods for computational image analysis.
The candidate has (or will have in the near future) an MSc degree in
cognitive psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, physics,
informatics, AI, biology, or any comparable area related to vision
science. The candidate has a strong interest in experimental research
in the area of visual perception, good research skills, and excellent
ability to write and read English. Experience with programming or
scripting languages (for example C++, Visual Basic, Matlab) is
required.
The starting date is flexible, but must be before November 1st 2011.
The employment will have to result in a written dissertation by the
end of the third year. Payment will be according to the standard
regulations for scientific personnel at the University of Iceland.
Interested applicants should send their CV, statement of research
interest, transcripts showing the grades in earlier studies and list
of 2-3 references to Prof. Árni Kristjansson (ak at hi.is) or Dr.
Prashanth Marpu (marpu at hi.is)
