Research positions at the IBM Almaden Research Center, San Jose,
California
IBM's Cognitive Computing team offers several openings for post-doctorate,
software engineer and research staff member positions. The team is tasked
to discover, demonstrate, and deliver novel neuromorphic architectures and
algorithms at unprecedented scale via a combination of computational
neuroscience, neuromorphic ASICs and nanotechnology, supercomputing,
machine learning and computer vision. The vibrant, multi-disciplinary
research team collaborates with other IBM labs and academic partners
worldwide.
We look for researchers and software engineers with outstanding expertise
in one or more of computational neuroscience and neural networks, machine
learning, computer vision, and autonomous robot navigation.
Specifically,
For mapping neural computation to spiking neuromorphic ASICs
valuable areas of expertise include computational neuroscience (spiking
computation, synaptic plasticity, structural plasticity, reinforcement
learning), machine learning, computational learning theory, associative
memory, memory capacity of networks, probabilistic graphical modeling,
deep-belief networks, HMAX, convolution networks, pattern classification.
For robot control in virtual and real environments skills of
interest include image processing and computer vision for autonomous
vehicle control and navigation, USARSim, cognitive task design, object
recognition, aerial robotics, real-time control systems, sensors (video,
audio, LIDAR, IR, etc.) and actuators.
For large scale simulations skills of interest include high
performance computing, parallel algorithms, programming of distributed
systems, MPI, and visualization.
The formal openings can be found here for regular and post-doc, and
engineering long-term supplemental positions. Applications should include
CV, statement of research interest and contact details of three or more
referees. Informal inquiries may be addressed to Arnon Amir
(arnon at almaden.ibm.com) and Steven Esser (sesser at us.ibm.com).
