Two-year post-doctoral retinal image analysis /computational ophthalmology position available:
Retinal image analysis /computational ophthalmology: Independent researcher to develop new analysis strategies for evaluating retinal images from spectral domain OCT and other imaging modalities. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated research expertise and strong interests in at least one of the following areas for 2-D/3-D medical image analysis: 1) statistical / mathematical / numerical analysis, 2) image processing / computer vision techniques, 3) high performance computing techniques for image analysis, or related area. Postdoctoral research projects and training can be completed under the new multi-disciplinary initiative, “Computational Ophthalmology”, among Ophthalmology, Computational Mathematics and Computer Science & Engineering at UCSD with several opportunities to strengthen cross-discipline skills. Candidates will have access to an in-house state-of-the-art 3-D NexCAVE visualization research facility and several computational / cluster resources. Highly motivated candidates will also receive training and guidance in writing research grants. Work with a multidisciplinary team of UCSD computer scientists, vision scientists, clinical researchers and basic scientists including Drs. Balasubramanian, Zangwill, Bowd, Medeiros, Holst.
Retinal image analysis /computational ophthalmology requirements: PhD or an equivalent degree in electrical engineering, computer science, biomedical engineering, mathematics, statistics or related discipline. Strong computer programming skills (MATLAB, C/C++/Java, MPI/cluster computing, R) preferred. Excellent writing skills, and history of productivity desirable. Salary will be set according to the NIH postdoc scale.
