Rovereto Workshops on
Science of experiential and qualitative spaces
>From points and lines, to surfaces and volumes
Rovereto, February 19th-22nd, 2012

Call for posters
Extended Deadline: December 20, 2011

Our visual sensorium appears to be partitioned into discrete entities that may be described in terms of points, lines, surfaces and volumes arrayed in a space that is 'outside' of us, the observer. But what are these perceptual entities? What are their origins, their interdependence and their semantic content?
Are they coextensive with what we cognitively ascribe to physical world and therefore it's 'representations', or do they constitute entities peculiar to the brain's structuring of sensory input for behavioural needs?

The first workshop of this series addresses the question of the genesis and metamorphosis of points, lines, surfaces and volumes in the organization of visual space and the formation of colored, 3-dimensional objects. Presentations will identify the diverse ways in which these entities appear in the visual field, and analyze the conditions of their appearances from a phenomenological, neurophysiological and computational standpoint.

The workshop differs from larger conferences in so far as there are a small number of speakers (all invited) and there are no concurrent talks. In addition to the individual talks, there will be a poster session for students, post-docs and young researchers to present their work. The workshop will run from February 19th-22nd, 2012.
