Postdoctoral and PhD positions are available to study the neuronal basis of
consciousness in Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
We are interested in the neuronal basis of consciousness, and more
specifically in the following subtopics:
1) The scope and limits of non-conscious processing (e.g., Tsuchiya & Koch
2005 Nature Neuroscience, Tsuchiya, Moradi et al 2009 Nature Neuroscience)
2) The relationship between consciousness and attention (e.g., Koch &
Tsuchiya 2007 Trends in Cognitive Science)
We study these topics using a combination of psychophysics and neuroimaging
techniques (intracranial recording, fMRI, EEG and TMS).
At Monash University, we will use a newly built 3T fMRI scanner with a
64-channel coil. The scanner has a capability of simultaneous recording of
EEG and simultaneous application of TMS during fMRI acquisition.
We also intensively collaborate with various institutions, including
Caltech, Stanford, Vanderbilt in USA and RIKEN in Japan, to perform
intracranial recording in both in human epilepsy patients (Tsuchiya et al
2008 PLoS One, Kovach, Tsuchiya, et al 2010 Neuroimage) and monkeys (Chao,
Nagasaka, Fujii 2010 Frontiers in Neuroengineering).
Besides the interest in neuronal basis of consciousness, computational
skills in any language is highly welcomed.
If interested, please contact with me (naotsu at gmail.com) or visit website (
http://ow.ly/7puFO for downloading my papers). I will be available during
SFN, especially after my talk on Sun Nov/13 (2:45- at room 147A) "Visual
consciousness tracked with direct intracranial recording from early visual
cortices in humans".
