Open Research Positions, Breast Imaging

Computational Breast Imaging Group (CBIG)

Department of Radiology, University of Pennsylvania

The Computational Breast Imaging Group (CBIG) of the Radiology
Department at the University of Pennsylvania is recruiting for two
postdoctoral and one data analyst/programmer research positions. The
research project involves i) developing and applying methods to analyze
breast density and parenchymal tissue patterns from Digital Mammography
and Digital Breast Tomosynthesis images and ii) developing multivariable
predictive models to determine a woman's risk of breast cancer and
breast cancer screening outcomes. Funding for this project has been
secured from the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute
and from private Breast Cancer Foundations.

Postdoctoral Position Qualifications:

We are seeking highly motivated individuals who have demonstrated
academic excellence, including a track record of publications in
peer-reviewed journals. Successful candidates should have a PhD (or
equivalent) in Electrical or Biomedical Engineering, or Computer
Science, with a strong background on biomedical image analysis with
emphasis on image feature extraction, segmentation, pattern recognition
and machine learning. Competence in programming methods (Matlab, C/C++,
ITK, LINUX scripting) and quantitative analytical methods is essential.
Applicants should demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate
both orally and in writing. Duties will include designing and
implementing experiments, data collection and analysis, and writing and
presenting results. The position will be initially for one year and
continuation during that period and renewal are based on satisfactory
performance. Funding for this position is secured for five years. Salary
is based on the NIH scale.

Data Analyst/Programmer Position Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in
Electrical or Biomedical Engineering, or Computer Science, or related
field. The work will involve applying, testing and extending image
analysis algorithms on multimodality breast images. Competence in
computer programming (Matlab, C/C++, Visual Studio, Java, etc.) is
essential. Experience with medical imaging software packages (ImageJ,
ITK, ClearCanvas, etc.), knowledge of advanced statistical packages
(SPSS, SPlus, etc.), and databases (SQLServer, etc.) is a plus.
Applicants should be able to work effectively as a team.
Responsibilities will include data collection and analysis. This is a
full-time research staff position. Funding is secured for two years.
Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.

CBIG is a research group of the Breast Imaging Division with a mission
to act as a translational catalyst between imaging science and clinical
breast cancer research. We collaborate with faculty in the Abramson
Cancer Center, the Institute for the Translational Medicine and
Therapeutics (ITMAT), and the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and
Biostatistics (CCEB). Successful applicants will join a vibrant
collaborative research environment, will work closely with clinical
investigators, and will gain a first-hand experience of our clinical
breast imaging program.
