Executive Director

The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the
world's largest community of eye and vision researchers, is seeking an
Executive Director to lead this growing 13,000-member organization and
its staff of 40.

ARVO's members include scientists, ophthalmologists, optometrists and
others involved in eye and vision research from nearly 80 countries. The
Association's aim is to help cure and prevent blindness by encouraging
and assisting research, training, publication and knowledge-sharing.

ARVO advances the progress of eye research worldwide by: 

*         encouraging professional development through practical and
informative educational activities, including the ARVO Annual Meeting
with about 12,000 attendees and over 6,000 poster and paper sessions; 

*         publishing the highly regarded, peer-reviewed journals
Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Journal of Vision and the
newly launched Translational Vision Science & Technology; 

*         funding research and travel grant programs worldwide,
primarily through the ARVO Foundation for Eye Research. 

The new Executive Director will have strong experience in: 

*         The scientific or medical fields or a related industry 

*         Leading and managing governance and staff 

*         Building education and professional development programs 

*         Peer-reviewed scientific journals and abstract management 

*         Nonprofit management 

*         Foundation management 

ARVO's Executive Director will serving as the primary representative of
ARVO to stakeholders. He or she will be a strategic planner and an
accomplished communicator with exceptional organization skills and a
track record in program planning. 

ARVO offers a competitive salary dependent upon experience with an
