Postdoctoral Position to Study the Functional Organization of Visual
Cortex at the University of California, Irvine.
Applications are invited for an NIH-funded postdoctoral position beginning
July 1, 2012 in the laboratory of David Lyon at UC Irvines Department of
Anatomy and Neurobiology. Projects in the lab are designed to investigate
the fine scale organization of local and long-range circuits in the visual
cortex of highly visual mammals (such as the cat) and mice using cell-type
specific viral tracers, optogenetics, intrinsic signal optical imaging,
and single unit electrophysiology.
The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. in neuroscience, or a related
field, and experience in one or more of the following areas: 1)
neuroanatomy; 2) single-unit electrophysiology; 3) Matlab programming; 4)
intrinsic signal optical imaging; 5) lasers and/or optogenetics; 6)
cell-culture and/or genetic manipulation of plasmid DNA.
Lack of experience in any or all of the above techniques can be offset by
a demonstration of skill in a related technique and by high motivation and
enthusiasm to take on new challenges.
The appointment is for 1 year, with the option for a 2nd. Funding becomes
available July 1st, but the start date is negotiable.
Interested applicants should send a CV, research statement, and the names
and e-mail addresses of 2-3 references.
For more information about the position feel free to contact David Lyon at
