PhD position available in Erlangen: Electrophysiology and psychophysics of the human retina and the changes caused by glaucoma
In a project, partially financed by the German Research Council (DFG), a PhD Position for initially two years is available at the laboratory of Experimental Ophthalmology (Dept. of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital Erlangen) under the supervision of Prof. Jan Kremers.
The aim of the project is to study photoreceptor driven signals in postreceptoral mechanisms and to develop new electrophysiological and psychophysical techniques and analysis methods in human subjects. In addition, we are interested to study how these signals and mechanisms are altered in glaucoma patients.
The goal of the laboratory of Experimental Ophthalmology is the development of electrophysiological and psychophysical methods in human subjects and in animals to study the physiology and the pathophysiology of the retina. There is a close interaction with the Department of Animal Physiology. Glaucoma-related research is a major scientific topic at the Department of Ophthalmology and at other departments of the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. There are collaborations with these groups. The group also interacts with other groups in Germany and in other countries.
Erlangen is a university town about 15 km (10 miles) north of Nuremberg in the state of Bavaria with a high quality of life and with a strong background in biomedical research both in academia and in the private sector.
