Job Description:
A position is available for a research associate or postdoctoral fellow to join an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers that use advanced optical technologies to study the human retina at the cellular level. Several research-grade systems have been developed that incorporate adaptive optics and optical coherence tomography. The successful candidate will further develop these technologies in parallel with their use to conduct vision science experiments.
The research lab (http://www.opt.indiana.edu/Miller.aspx) is part of the Indiana University Visual Optics Group, an active community of vision scientists working at the cutting edge of visual optics and retinal imaging. A major aim of the Group is to create advanced optical instrumentation for eye research. The School of Optometry has an extensive clinical program, and an internationally renowned research and graduate program with numerous collaborations with other disciplines within the university.
Indiana University is a major research university founded in 1820 and considered to have one of the five most beautiful campuses in the US. It currently enrolls over 30,000 undergraduates and 7,800 graduate and professional students on the Bloomington campus.
Qualifications:
Qualifications for the position include a PhD and strong experimental background in optics, ideally with expertise in OCT, adaptive optics, or a related area. Strong communication and team skills are essential. Experience in software development and image processing are desirable. Knowledge of vision science is beneficial, but not required. The project is supported by federal funding.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Priority deadline for applications is May 1, 2012; however, applications will be reviewed until suitable candidate is identified. Additional information regarding Indiana University and the School of Optometry is available at http://www.opt.indiana.edu.
Applicants should send a CV, a statement of research interests, and contact information of three references to Donald Miller.
