POST-DOCTORAL POSITION IN VISUAL NEUROSCIENCE - SEIDEMANN/GEISLER LABS
Center for Perceptual Systems, University of Texas at Austin
The laboratories of Eyal Seidemann and Bill Geisler in the Center for
Perceptual Systems at UT Austin are seeking applications for a postdoctoral
fellowship. Our laboratories are working together to investigate how neural
circuits in the primate cortex mediate visual perception. Current research
focuses on encoding and decoding by neural population responses in early
visual cortical areas of awake, behaving primates. Optical imaging with
voltage-sensitive dyes and behavioral studies in monkeys and humans are
combined with computational modeling. The successful candidate will have
opportunities to learn additional techniques including intracellular
recordings in behaving monkeys (in collaboration with Nicholas Priebe) and
various methods for perturbing brain activity.
The Center for Perceptual Systems (www.cps.utexas.edu) and the Institute for
Neuroscience at UT Austin (www.neuroscience.utexas.edu) offer excellent
facilities, an outstanding interdisciplinary scientific environment, a
strong vision community and a very collegial atmosphere. Austin is an
affordable city and is widely considered one of the most beautiful and
livable cities in the US.
Computational background, programming experience (C/C++/Matlab), and
experience with electrophysiology are desirable. Please send CV, statement
of research interests and the names of three references to Eyal Seidemann
(eyal at mail.cps.utexas.edu) or Bill Geisler (geisler at psy.utexas.edu).
