FULL-TIME RESEARCH ASSISTANT POSITION AVAILABLE IN VISION SCIENCE

 

Location: Schepens Eye Research Institute Boston, MA

Start date: July 2012

 

Schepens Eye Research Institute, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, has
an opening for a full-time research assistant to work with Dr Alex Bowers in
the Mobility and Vision Rehabilitation Center. The available position is to
assist in the implementation of studies evaluating the effect of optical
(prismatic) treatments and intensive computerized training regimens for
people with hemianopia, the loss of half the field of vision, caused by
stroke and traumatic brain injury. Functional performance will be evaluated
in real world situations and virtual environments, including a walking
simulator and a high-fidelity driving simulator. The position may also
involve working on other projects.

 

The position is initially available for 12 months and involves all stages of
the research process from planning experiments to assisting with manuscript
writing and presentation preparation.  The primary responsibilities will be
recruiting subjects, collecting data, running training sessions, running
assessments in the driving simulator and walking simulator, maintaining
databases, and processing and analyzing data.  Other tasks may include
activities such as administrative management in the lab.

 

BA or BS in an area related to vision science is required.  Good problem
solving skills, the ability to work independently on multiple tasks, and
strong interpersonal skills are essential.  Knowledge of experimental
psychology, visual psychophysics or statistics would be a plus.
